What do you do in a place where there is plenty of sunlight as well as brisk winds? Install a streetlight powered by solar as well as wind energy!That is what I saw in the parking lot of Hanauma Bay in Hawaii. The pic above shows one of the street lamps. Each lamp had a wind turbine under it (vertical vanes) and a solar panel atop it. A battery stored the power and it was discharged during the night. I thought this would make perfect sense in Seattle. The solar panel will be useful on sunny days (believe me, there are plenty), and the wind turbine would power it on windy days. I wonder why these are not in widespread use..
